Conan Exiles lets players explore the huge world of Robert E. Howard’s famous franchise. Players can go far beyond the mythos presented in the famous movies to instead see Howard’s larger mythos. The game is filled with content for both solo and multiplayer sessions.
The multiplayer mode provides players with the chance to adventure with, or pit their might against, other people.
But as with most modern games, this online play comes with a catch. Conan Exiles is available for a wide variety of different platforms. And the interaction between players on those different platforms is generally limited.
This raises a big question for anyone interested in Conan Exiles. Can you actually play Conan Exiles with friends if they’re on different platforms?
In other words, is Conan Exiles Cross Platform?
The answer generally comes down to exactly which platforms people are trying to connect with.
Is Conan Exiles Cross Platform in General?
Conan Exiles does have some limited cross play or cross platform options. But as you’ll soon see, these are fairly limited.
Conan Exiles is only cross platform or cross play in the most limited sense. The only way to really play on two systems from different companies is through the use of the Xcloud cloud gaming platform.
And even that option only operates by essentially mimicking an Xbox on a PC.
Conan Exiles can’t really be considered cross platform due to just how limited the options for cross play are.
But that doesn’t mean the game is inherently locked to just one platform. There are some limited options to reach beyond your own platform.
Is Conan Exiles Cross Platform Between Xbox and PS4/PS5
When people talk about cross platform compatibility they’re usually most curious about whether or not Playstation and Xbox users can play together.
Sony and Microsoft tend to have a lot of multiplayer games on their platforms. And many of these have dual-releases. But it’s always questionable whether cross play will ever appear within them.
In the case of Conan Exiles, there’s no cross play between the Xbox and PlayStation. Likewise, there’s been no solid hints that cross play between Xbox and Playstation will ever appear in Conan Exiles.
Is Conan Exiles Cross Platform Between PC and Xbox
The PC and Xbox are linked in many ways. Developers often use similar APIs and technologies to develop games for both Windows and Xbox.
And these similarities often result in cross play between them. However, Conan Exiles is an exception to that rule.
Someone who owns Conan Exiles on the PC won’t be able to play with friends who have it on the Xbox. Or, at least, that’s true when playing the native Windows build of Conan Exiles on the PC. But there is one workaround to the cross platform limitation on PC.
The Xcloud service lets you connect your PC to an Xbox cloud-based platform. This essentially turns your Windows-based computer into a terminal that offers a remote connection to a server running Xbox software.
Technically, you’re not actually playing the Windows version of Conan Exiles when you’re gaming with Xcloud.
You’re instead essentially using your PC as a remote connection to an instance of the Xbox build of Conan Exiles that’s running in the cloud.
This means that if you’re playing Conan Exiles on the PC through Xcloud then you will be able to connect with friends playing on an Xbox.
However, this does bring about another limitation. If you’re using this method to play Conan Exiles on the PC then you won’t be able to connect with players running a Windows build of Conan Exiles on their PCs.
Is Conan Exiles Cross Platform Between Xbox One and Series X/S?
Xbox fans do have good news when it comes to cross platform support. Conan Exiles supports cross play between all Xbox devices.
This means that Xbox One players can connect to friends playing on the Xbox Series X, S, and Xcloud.
Likewise, people on any of these platforms can mix and match to their heart’s content. Basically, if you’re playing Conan Exiles on one Xbox platform then you can play with people on any other Xbox platform. This also includes PC players using the Xcloud platform.
Is Conan Exiles Cross Platform Between PS4/PS5?
PlayStation users will also be happy to know that they can share the experience with any modern version of the console.
Conan Exiles is available for the PlayStation 4. And that PS4 release is 100% compatible with the PS5.
Likewise, Conan Exiles is cross platform between these two iterations of Sony’s console. PS4 players can connect to other players on both the PS4 and PS5. And if you’re on the PS5 you can connect to other PS5 players and PS4 players.
Is Conan Exiles Crossplay Between Steam and Epic?
PC users used to be able to look at it as a single platform. But over time PC games have become somewhat fragmented across different stores.
Where you bought a game for the PC is often just as important as the fact that you’re playing it on Windows.
The biggest segmentation has come from differences between the Steam and Epic stores. Steam is an established standard that has all but dominated the PC gaming sphere for some time now.
But Epic has been continually gaining traction for a while. And it’s quite common for the same game to limit connections to players who purchased it from the same online store.
Thankfully there are no compatibility issues between Conan Exiles on Steam and Epic’s stores. Someone playing Conan Exiles under a Steam account can play along with someone who bought the game on Epic’s store.
And of course, the same situation works in reverse as well. Someone who bought Conan Exiles from Epic’s store can initiate games with a friend who bought the game on Steam.
On Which Gaming Platforms can you Play Conan Exiles?
Conan Exiles is available for most modern platforms. It was originally released for Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This initial release was followed up with enhanced ports to the Xbox Series X and S.
It’s also playable through the cloud on Xcloud. And PlayStation 5 owners can play Conan Exiles through the platform’s PlayStation 4 compatibility.
Playing on the PlayStation 5 provides some additional minor enhancements over the PlayStation 4 experience. This includes faster loading time and reduced lag.
The Xbox Series X and Series S releases occurred in June of 2021. This shows that Funcom is still open to porting the game to new platforms.
It also suggests that there may well be a chance for more ports or even cross play announcements in the future. Though at the moment there’s been no official news of additional ports or new cross play features.
