How Accessible is Call of Duty to All Gamers (Platform support) ?
If you were to ask anyone out on the street a top five list of first-person shooter video games, the chances are high that the Call of Duty franchise would be somewhere on that list because of how well-known these games are.
But, are the Call of Duty franchise video games as easily accessible to the gaming community as they are well-known?
For the majority of their games, they are purchasable and playable on Windows, macOS, PlayStation consoles, and Xbox consoles.
There is only a select amount of the Call of Duty franchise video games that in addition to the above-mentioned platforms, are also available on Nintendo consoles.
There is currently no Call of Duty video games available on the Nintendo Switch. However, the GameCube had a couple released for this console and Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops II were released on the Wii and Wii U.
Cross-Platform Gaming
Video game franchises such as Activision’s Call of Duty are widely accessible on most platforms for all gamers to enjoy on their respective platforms.
In recent years though, there has been a breakthrough in the gaming world and their communities. For decades, the gaming communities of the consoles and platforms were always debating which console was the best.
This is mostly a gamer debate held between the PlayStation community, the Xbox community, and the PC gaming community.
One of the problems was their inability to grant their players cross-platform play. This meant that if you and your buddies wanted to hop online and play Call of Duty together but you had a PlayStation and they all had Xbox’s, then you were automatically left out.
The creation of cross-platform gaming has changed that completely. Now for certain games, it doesn’t matter if you have a different console or PC than that of your gaming pals. You can join the game lobby of your friends from your Xbox while they join in from their PlayStation or PC.
Cross-platform gaming is made possible by the use of various software and common servers that essentially work to communicate between the different software languages of the consoles and platforms to make them cross-compatible for gamers.
Cross-Platform Gaming Issues
While the development of cross-platform gaming is a dream come true for millions of gamers across the globe that can finally share the same experience with their gaming friends on different platforms, it’s not without its issues.
There is an obvious difference in control button schemes between the platforms… especially between consoles and gaming computers.
While consoles might have some slight variation in their controller schemes, they are still similar in their software functionality.
Gaming computers on the other hand are an entirely different beast in the realm of cross-platform gaming as their keyboard and mouse give them a huge advantage against their counterpart console gamers.
Is Call of Duty Cross-Platform?
If you are looking for some cross-platform Call of Duty action with your online squad, you are in luck. There are indeed a select few video games of the Call of Duty franchise that you can load up on your console and then join into the same game lobby as your friends on their Xbox or PlayStation.
Let’s discuss below which CoD games are cross-platform:
Is “Call of Duty Black Ops 4” cross platform?
Unfortunately, if you were hoping that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 would be the first on this list of cross-platform Call of Duty video games, you will be disappointed to find out that it is not. While it is available to purchase and play on PlayStation, Xbox, and Microsoft Windows, it is not cross-platform compatible.
Luckily, there are other options…
Is “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War” and “Call of Duty Modern Warfare” cross platform?
Both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, released in 2019, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, released in 2020 are cross-platform compatible.
This means that if you and your buddies that all have different platforms because of the respective exclusive titles they prefer and enjoy still want to play Call of Duty together, you absolutely can. It doesn’t matter if you have a gaming computer and they have an Xbox or PlayStation.
Is “Call of Duty: Vanguard” cross platform?
Activision’s most recent published entry of their Call of Duty franchise, Call of Duty: Vanguard that was released in November of this 2021, is also a cross-platform title.
Final Words
It is just absolutely amazing how far gaming technology has come in just the last few years. While the debate between which gaming platform is the best will continue to rage on, it is comforting to know that you no longer have to feel left out the next time your gaming friends want to stay up late and play a few rounds of Call of Duty.
As long as you all own Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019 release), Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, or their newest release Call of Duty: Vanguard, you will be able to play cross-platform and rack up all the killstreaks together.
